About
As we begin Advent, we will be pausing to focus on the essential Christian practice of discernment. We are called to so much more than participation in Sunday worship in order to become fully disciples of Christ. The practices of our spiritual lives enrich us and make us more able to proclaim the gospel and serve others. Discernment means seeking God’s will alongside our own needs and desires, and responding to community with an awareness of God and self. How do we do all this? What does a faithful life marked by discernment look like?
This online discernment event will be led by Dr. Kathleen “Kathy” Henderson Staudt, SCHC. Kathy has worked as a teacher, poet and spiritual director at Virginia Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary, with classes focusing on writing, literature, spirituality and explorations of vocation. She is the author of Shaping a Faithful Life: Discernment and Discipleship for Young Adults and she delights in the unique and particular ways God calls each of us to serve and support what Verna Dozier has called “the Dream of God,” at all stages of our lives. A finalist in the 2020 Paraclete Poetry contest, she is the author of four books of poems, most recently Viriditas: New and Selected Poems. Kathy is a Companion in the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross (SCHC) and co-directs the Adelynrood School for Spiritual Direction. Her website is at kathleenstaudtpoet.org.
