About
St. Mark’s in association with Hope on Water present a screening of A Most Beautiful Thing. This New York Times-acclaimed film by Mary Mazzio is the moving true story of a group of young men growing up on Chicago’s west side who form the first all African American school rowing team in the nation, and in doing so not only transform a sport, but their lives.
We are honored that Arshay Cooper, who stars in the film after writing a book of the same name, will join us for a discussion. Today he is not only an author but a philanthropist and motivational speaker.
He will be joined by Myrna Gotrell, head rowing coach at Hackensack High School, and assistant coach at the Bergen County Rowing Academy. Myrna is the founder of Hope On Water, whose mission is to improve life outcomes for historically marginalized communities by increasing access to the sport of rowing.
