About
This winter the Bishop’s Study Group will convene while Bishop is on sabbatical. Canon Clark will be joined by the Rev. Dr. Carla E. Roland Guzmán, professor at the General Theological Seminary and author of Unmasking Latinx Ministry for Episcopalians: An Anglican Approach.
Following on the Bishop’s Study Group from 2024 (“This is My Story: Learning to see, talk and share stories of faith”) Dr. Roland will lead participants in a four-part program entitled “My Church History Story” that she has developed and will launch with our Study Group.
People will explore their own faith story and how it fits in the “normative” history of their current faith community and denomination, how their community falls or intersects with race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality issues, and how that has impacted their journey and how they have told their story. The sessions will be guided by the idea of “hidden history” and the value of understanding and placing our stories within that history.
Participants are asked as always to commit to all four sessions. You do not need to have participated in the Bishop’s Study Group previously to join these sessions. Bring a notebook and an open heart and mind, as we continue to work as a diocese on talking about our faith!
A companion book for the sessions will be Buried Seeds: Learning from the Vibrant Resilience of Marginalized Christian Communities by Alexia Salvatierra and Brandon Wrencher. Those wishing a copy can let Canon Clark know in advance of the first session.
The Sessions are all Tuesday nights from 7-8:30 PM:
