As part of the celebration of the diocese’s 150th anniversary, in place of the Bishop’s usual winter book study there will be a Speaker Series on four consecutive Tuesday evenings.

SECOND SPEAKER: THE RT. REV. ROSE HUDSON-WILKIN

The Rt. Rev. Rose Hudson-WilkinBishop Rose serves as the Suffragan Bishop of Dover in the Diocese of Canterbury. She was born and grew up in Montego Bay. She was ordained deacon in 1991 and priest in 1994. For 16 and a half years she served as a priest in Hackney. In 2007 she was appointed as a Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen and in 2010, she became the 79th (and first female) Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons. She leads the prayers in the House of Commons daily and has pastoral care of members and staff of the Palace of Westminster. In 2019 it was announced that Hudson-Wilkin was to become Bishop suffragan of Dover. As a suffragan bishop, the Bishop of Dover has authority to oversee the Diocese of Canterbury on behalf of the diocesan bishop, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Bishop Rose became the first black woman to become a bishop in the Church of England.
