Stewardship Matters

As a former warden, I remember well how overwhelming the inbox can get – and how tempting it is to set something aside for “when things settle down.” But some opportunities shouldn’t be postponed.

One of those is the chance to honor someone in your congregation through the David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Awards. These awards celebrate long-standing, active members (age 60+) whose quiet dedication and steadfast presence have helped shape the life of your church.

This year’s ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Church of the Saviour in Denville. It’s a joyful afternoon of music, community, and deep gratitude – a real celebration of what it means to live a life of faith and service.

You might think of this as a “nice to do,” but I encourage you to see it as an essential act of stewardship. Honoring those who have sustained the church over time helps to reinforce a culture of generosity, gratitude, and legacy. It also encourages others to imagine how their own faith and gifts can make a lasting difference.

I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful this moment can be – for honorees, their families, and their congregations. In fact, one former honoree from my parish initially hesitated, thinking he was “too young” at 68. A few years later, he passed away – and I’ve never been more grateful that we didn’t wait.

Please don’t miss this opportunity to lift someone up while they can still receive the love and appreciation they deserve.

Submission Details:

  • Deadline: Friday, May 10, 2025
