The air has chilled, the leaves are changing, and we are officially 24 days until the 151st Annual Diocese Convention. As the various committees and members of the Bishop’s staff are preparing for the big day it is important that all the deputies and clergy who will be attending start to prepare also. In this Convention Corner, you will find important information that will help you navigate this year’s location and schedule like a pro.
As you prepare to attend Convention, please remember that everyone needs to be registered with the Bishop’s office. Once you are a registered deputy or clergy you will start to receive emails from John King and Randy Johnson that will give you guidance for the day, so please make sure you check your email regularly. If you haven’t received anything, please check your junk mail. The email address that was provided at time of registration will also be used to send you the voting ballots for elections. If you do not receive anything and are positive you are registered, please contact John King.
So, you’re ready to attend Convention! Now you want to know about parking, when to arrive, and all that exciting information. Please keep in mind that Calvary Church in Summit is hosting, so parking will be public lots. The church’s entrance on Woodland Ave. will be closed; please proceed to DeForest Ave., where entrances to free parking will be found behind the church, the CVS, and the neighboring office building. The parking lots across the street are paid public parking and you will be responsible for those costs if you park there. Anyone who needs handicapped parking, please contact Donna Caputo for further information.
Convention doors open at 8 AM, with the call to order at 9 AM. To access the event please follow the signs that will be posted. Check-in stations are set up in alphabetical order according to your last name; you will be asked to give your last name and your church. There will be coffee, tea, and water throughout the day in the room to the left of the altar. Bathroom facilities will be clearly marked, and our Arrangements Committee members will be able to direct you also.
This year’s Convention will be a busy one for us. Since this is a one-day simplified event, we will not have workshops or vendors. Instead, we will focus on elections, reports, and a beautiful worship service. Please note that we will be splitting lunch service into two groups to provide a better opportunity for those attending to find a seat, have fellowship, and enjoy the break from the meeting while enjoying their food. Meanwhile the other group will enjoy a few presentations that can help provide support to their congregations.
Keep in mind this year we will be voting for delegates for General Convention. Nominations for all elections are open until Nov. 8.
We look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!
