151st Convention

September is slipping by, and with it comes the final push toward this year’s Annual Convention. Behind the scenes, preparations are well underway: the agenda is under review, voting cards are sorted, and the familiar Convention bins are being carefully organized.

On Saturday, September 13, the Arrangements Committee met to review details for the big day. Members sorted through supplies reused each year, ensuring that name tag holders, voting cards, and other essential items were clean, well-maintained, and ready for participants. The committee also reviewed logistical plans, including Convention setup and lunch distribution. With so many moving parts, these work sessions are critical to the event’s success. Still, the day was not without moments of fellowship – laughter and lively conversations punctuated the steady pace of preparation.

At the same time, the voting support team turned its attention to the complexities of this year’s balloting process. With two new members on board, the team conducted test runs of sample elections to ensure accuracy and efficiency on the day of the vote. Following their meeting, members traveled to Calvary Church to test cellular connections, confirming that deputies and clergy will be able to access the voting platform through their phones without interruption. As past participants know, voting is conducted via a secure link delivered by email, requiring only minimal data use. The team will be on hand to help with any technical issues, but the availability of strong cellular coverage across multiple carriers offers reassurance that the process will run smoothly.

As the Convention approaches, several important deadlines are also drawing near. Late nominations are still open for elected diocesan offices. Congregations have until October 1 to register deputies and clergy, and organizers remind participants to confirm any dietary needs before submitting registrations. Questions regarding deadlines may be directed to John King.

Convention is built not only on careful planning but also on the dedication and fellowship of those working behind the scenes. Their efforts ensure that when the doors open, the focus can remain where it belongs – on the work of the church through voting and reports, and on the worship that unites the diocese as one community.
