Commission on Ministry
The Commission on Ministry (COM) is appointed by the Bishop and approved by Diocesan Convention. Members include laity, deacons, and priests. The COM provides recommendations and counsel to the Bishop regarding intentional discernment for various ministries, lay and ordained. Specifically, this includes assisting individuals who are seeking to discern their possible call to the diaconate or the priesthood and guiding individuals through the formal process towards ordination. Additionally, the COM is developing resources for discernment for lay ministries and assisting in identifying formation options to support them.
An additional resource that began in May 2024 is the Diocese of Newark School for Ministry which provides training for intentional licensed lay ministries, such as preacher, worship leader, and pastoral leader, as well as formation for the Diaconate.
The Co-Chairs of the Commision on Ministry are the Rev. Victoria McGrath and Ms. Sue Morgan. The Liaison for the Bishop’s Office is Canon Andrew Wright.
Note: It is our policy in the Diocese of Newark not to discuss our ordination process as it relates to specific individuals, as all proceedings are confidential.
