151st Convention

Are you someone with the skills and commitment to make a positive impact on the mission of the Diocese of Newark? The Nominations Committee is seeking both clergy and lay volunteers to stand for various offices on the boards, committees, councils and grant-making bodies of our diocese. Through these positions you can gain a closer understanding of how the diocese operates, and bring your talents and experience to bear on a broad range of matters.

Bill CruseAs said by the Rev. Bill Cruse:

“Serving on the Diocesan Council has been a wonderful part of my faith journey… I have gained new friendships, become more connected to other parishes, and helped the parish I serve as priest understand and participate more fully in the ministry of our region and diocese.”

Pat Yankus adds:
Patricia Yankus

“Serving not only feeds my soul, but it deepens my spiritual relationship with God and the people I interact with. Because of this I have found new and exciting ways to do ministry.”

We are looking for current or former vestry members and parish leaders, as well as anyone who feels called to join with others in collaborative endeavors using our God-given gifts. Whether you have experience in church governance, outreach grant-making, legal matters, or property management, there is a role for you! If you don’t have experience but you are eager to learn more, there is a place for you too! Specific responsibilities include attending regular meetings, reviewing materials, and participating in decision-making processes.

Rod Perez-VegaJoining a diocesan committee is a fulfilling experience. Here is what the Rev. Rod Perez-Vega had to say:

“I decided to serve on Diocesan Council because I believe that the “church”, the body of Christ, extends far beyond our buildings, property, and the confines of the town where we live. Serving on Diocesan Council is a way to serve the larger body of Christ; and it has enriched my ministry by helping me break barriers, and allowing me a closer experience with the rich diversity of the body of Christ in the Diocese of Newark.”

To gain additional insight from a former lay committee member, we spoke with Michael Francaviglia, who served following his retirement from diocesan staff. He said:

Michael FrancavigliaMy time on the ACTS/VIM – Alleluia Board has brought me joy to serve alongside other faith-filled committee members, admiration for the creative, caring and crucial congregational-based ministries throughout the diocese, and encouragement from many organizations who seek Alleluia Fund assistance.”

More information about how to apply is available at the Convention Elections webpage, or contact one of the Nominations Committee co-chairs, the Rev. Ellen Kohn-Perry or Lindsay McHugh.
