Death in our diocesan family

With sadness we share the news of the death of the Very Rev. Sandye Wilson, 71, on April 15, 2025, four weeks after she publicly announced a stage 3 cancer diagnosis.

Sandye served as Rector of St. Andrew & Holy Communion, South Orange, from 2004 until 2018. During her time in the Diocese of Newark, she served on Diocesan Council (Classes of 2009, 2011, and 2013); Deputy to five General Conventions (2006-2018); the Commission on Ministry (Class of 2011); Constitution & Canons (2014-2019); the Cathedral Chapter (Classes of 2011 & 2014); the Commission on Women’s Ministries (2004-2013); and the Ecclesiastical Court / Disciplinary Board (2009-2014).

At the time of her death, Sandye was serving as interim dean of the Cathedral of All Saints in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and as a Trustee of the Church Pension Fund, as reported by Episcopal News Service.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Father of all, we pray to you for Sandye, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
