Death in our diocesan family

With sadness we share the news of the death of the Rev. Marjorie Lindstrom on September 21, 2024 in Rockland, ME of complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Marge was born on July 6, 1951 to the Rev. George and Roberta Dawson. She grew up in Northern NJ and upstate New York where her father served as rector of several parishes. She received her BA from Ohio Wesleyan University and MS from NYU. She taught special education for 30 years at The Community School in Teaneck, a private school for learning disabilities. Retiring from teaching she entered the postulancy process and received her MDiv from General Theological Seminary in 2005, and was subsequently ordained to the diaconate and priesthood.

She was employed as a chaplain at the Seamen’s Church Institute for 12 years. While at SCI she served on the board of directors of The National Association of Maritime Ministries and as the chaplain to the New York Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross. In the diocese, she served on the Commission for Women’s Ministries (2009-2012) and on the Commission on Ministry (2017-2021). After retiring from SCI she was the Priest in Charge of St. Mathews, Paramus, before moving to Maine in 2021.

Marge is survived by her husband of 50 years, Mike, sons Anders (Aleksandra) and Erik, granddaughters Malin and Annabel Grace, and brothers George and John.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Church, Newark at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marge’s memory to Seamen’s Church Institute.

Condolences may be sent to Mike Lindstrom, 18 Schooner Dr., Rockland, ME 04841.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Marge to be a priest in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by her example; give us the grace to keep the faith she taught and to follow in her footsteps. We entrust her into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
