Death in our diocesan family

Robert TurnerWith sadness we share the news of the death of the Rev. Deacon Robert “Bob” Turner, 86, on November 16, 2024.

In 1966 Bob visited House of Prayer, Newark, and was impressed by the enthusiastic, diverse congregation and warm welcome. A brief time later, he decided to attend the Diocesan School of Religion and was ordained a deacon in the Diocese of Newark. He also served in the dioceses of New Jersey and New York. He was serving at Holy Trinity in Manhattan on September 11, 2001, and supported several parishioners who survived the terrorist attack. Read his full obituary.

Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of over 55 years, Dolores. He leaves behind four children and their spouses: Robert W. Turner; Kelly D. Turner and Christy; Kristoffer S. Turner and Toni; Tiffany S. Turner-Bell and Allen Bell; eight grandchildren: Cole, Jordyn, Brooklyn, Holly, Xavier, Justis, Paige, and Jace; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and all who loved him.

Good and gracious God, the light of the faithful and shepherd of souls, you sent your servant Bob to be a deacon in your Church to feed your sheep with your word and to guide them by his example; give us the grace to keep the faith he taught and to follow in his footsteps. We entrust him into your unfailing mystery of Love and Hope through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
