Death in our diocesan family

With sadness we share the news of the death of Mabel Ann Wynne Allen, 91, peacefully at home on December 9, 2025.

An English and social studies teacher by profession, Mabel served on the diocesan Commission on Communications from 1981-1984, and as an editor of The VOICE when it was a print publication. She also served various roles at St Paul’s, Englewood and Church of the Atonement, Tenafly, and in the Englewood and Tenafly communities. Read her full obituary.

Mabel is survived by her three children and their families: Byron, his wife, Tami, and their son, Tyler; Lesley, her husband, Robert Woolfolk, and their daughter, Katie; and Earle, his wife, Kelli Palan, and their daughter, Vivian. She was predeceased by her husband, Byron A. Allen, Jr; her father, Winston W. Wynne; her mother, Mabel H. Wynne; and her brother, Winston W. Wynne, Jr.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 3, 2026 in Virginia Beach, VA.

Father of all, we pray to you for Mabel, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
