Death in our diocesan family

With sadness we share the news of the death of Joan Henderson Lodge on November 21, 2024 in Kingsport Tennessee.

Joan was very active in the life of the Diocese of Newark. She was a long time staff member and served on the committee of Eagle’s Nest Camp (the pre-cursor to Cross Roads), served multiple terms on Diocesan Council (Classes of 1986, 1988 & 1994), the Department of Missions (Class of 1997), the Evangelism Committee (1987-1992) and the Committee on Constitution & Canons (1996-1998). Starting in 1984, Joan and her husband Dennis were also instrumental members of the Convention Arrangements Committee, with Joan serving as Chairwoman from 1987 – 1991.

Born Joan Henderson on March 16, 1942 in Maywood, NJ. Joan grew up with her parents, Guy and Ada Henderson along with her brother, Richard. She married Dennis Lodge (1942-2003) on July 13,1963. Together, they raised a family in Caldwell NJ, before relocating to Vernon, NJ. Her memory will be treasured by her children – Kathleen Moody (Franklinton, NC) Scott Lodge (Livingston, NJ) and Deborah Harpster (Kingsport, TN) – by her 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 161 E Ravine Rd, Kingsport, TN on Sunday, December 1, at 2:30 PM A separate memorial Service will also be held on Sunday, December 1 at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E Mt Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. Visitation starting at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 12:00 PM In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory can be made to Episcopal Relief And Development (episcopalrelief.org)

Father of all, we pray to you for Joan, and for all those whom we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
