Noel GarciaAfter more than fifteen years of dedicated service to the diocese, Noel Garcia will be retiring on Wednesday, January 15. In his capacity as Controller, Noel has had primary responsibility for keeping the books of Diocesan Council, the Trustees of the Episcopal Funds, the Bishop’s Discretionary Fund and the Gertrude Butts Foundation. He has also served as the primary intermediary between the Diocesan Investment Trust investors and the fund manager (TIAA), and the go-to person for everything related to diocesan pledges.

Diocesan CFO Sam Reckford says, “There are many critical functions here that I have never had to worry about because I knew that Noel had them under control. That dependability has made my job infinitely easier. He will be greatly missed.”

“While the loss of Noel’s accounting expertise and hard work will be a big adjustment of us,” says Bishop Hughes, “it his generous and faithful spirit that we will miss the most. His ability to see God’s presence in all things, including our finances, was a blessing to me and I believe the entire diocese.”

The diocese has engaged a consultant, Alice Ralston, to serve as Interim Controller. She will document the Controller’s work duties and help implement a new accounting system, until a permanent Controller can be hired in the spring.

Please join us in wishing Godspeed to Noel, and welcome to Alice.
