A Pentecost Celebration: Blessing & Sending Disciples into the World

On Pentecost Sunday, the Diocese of Newark will take the altar into the world in the city of Newark. To be held at Trinity & St. Philip's Cathedral (outside, weather permitting), this festive, colorful, lively Pentecost service will be led by Bishop Mark Beckwith and will feature:

"Paperless" music by Marilyn Haskel, Music Associate at Trinity Wall Street;

The Gospel Choir of Church of the Incarnation in Jersey City;

The Rev. Dr. M. William "Bill" Howard of Bethany Baptist Church in Newark as guest preacher;

Readers in numerous languages;

Norman Chin's Chinese Lion Dancers.

Congregations and our partner organizations are invited to bring a small, portable item that symbolizes their ministry and mission, to be presented for blessing at the service. Some examples are: a soup pot or an item of food (for food-related ministries); a small construction tool (for housing-related ministries); a folded sheet or pillowcase (for shelter-related ministries); a container of infant formula (for ministries to mothers and children). Use your imagination! If your ministry or mission doesn't lend itself to a small, portable symbol, a photo is also welcome.

Congregations are also invited to bring thuribles, streamers and dove kites to use during the service. And of course, attendees are invited to wear RED!
