YOUth and YOUng Adults

Youth Pop-Up Initiative 2019

We’re Off! Planning has begun in earnest and we anticipate recruiting two young adults to serve at Cross Roads for the summer, where they will do the Safe Church Training and lead Camp activities. In the Fall of 2019 they will be offering Pop Up Youth events in two locations. The first will be centered around St. Alban’s in Franklin Lakes and the second will be located at Christ Church in Bloomfield. Pop Up Youth events will be offered in both locations and are intended to engage local youth from the community and from neighboring churches who wish to participate. The events are not intended to replace existing youth ministry – but to augment it and provide the critical mass that so many of our parishes now lack.

The Pop-Up Youth ministry will be offered monthly and will be scheduled to make full use of the youth offerings at Cross Roads, where the young adult leaders will also serve as leaders. The hope is that as our youth develop relationships, they will increasingly wish to attend the events offered at Cross Roads as well as locally. Diocesan events, like the convention and EYE will also be scheduled into the planning – to avoid conflicts.

Where are we going and How do we get there?

Shepherd’s Gathering is a time of rest and reflection, fellowship and learning with others who work with children and youth in the church.

Thursday and Friday are Sabbath time: unstructured R&R including meals, starting with dinner on Thursday. Retreat programming starts on Friday dinner and ends on Sunday after lunch.

This year on Saturday December 1 – 9:00 am – 4:00pm we will look at the ways we choose what to teach and pick the curriculum and program to help us get to our goals. How to decide what you would like your children and youth to learn and then what resources are out there to help you get there.

We will be joined by Sharon Pearson the Christian Formation Specialist for Church Publishing Incorporated. Her role is to support and assist individuals and congregations in strengthening their Christian formation ministries and programs. She is also an editor for CPI, with oversight of books and resources that connect with education, formation, congregational development, and leadership. In other words – everything that happens in a church! Read more at

We will join together to reflect on how we journey with children and youth on the Way of Love that Christ lays out and how we can help them navigate the road ahead.
