Lenten Meditations

1 Cor: 19Or do you not know that your body is a temple* of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body

As a youth leader, this was one of the passages that I would share with our young people about taking care of ourselves, and, as women, being aware of, and particular about how we allowed others to view and use our bodies.  As a parent, I used the same passage with my daughter, to encourage her to believe that both she and her body are special and worthy of great respect.

Our culture has placed a great deal of pressure upon young women and young people of all gender identities around body image, and how we value ourselves in a world that objectifies how we look and what that says about us.

At a time in history when our culture feels able to hear the stories of abuse and misconduct against young people and young women, let’s remember that God loves us as we are, a human fully alive;  and that our bodies are an expression of the wholeness of our mind, spirit and physical being. And we all deserve to be treated with reverence, love and respect.
