Maundy Thursday
Jesus has it all planned out. Two of his disciples are to walk into the town until they see a man with a water jar. He will be unique as carrying water is the job of women. When and how Jesus made all these preparations we do not know. But this meal, this Passover meal, is very important and so he planned carefully. I am sure you or someone in your family makes careful plans for special meals for your Thanksgiving and other special occasions. They are special times.
In this meal Jesus instituted the Eucharistic meal that we know so well. He took the bread. He blessed, broke and shared it. He said, “Take it, this is my body.” He took the cup, blessed it and shared it. He said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.”
Every time you come to receive Jesus remember his invitation to you. He wants you to take the bread, blessed and broken. He wants you to be one of the many for whom his blood was poured out.
