Help is on the way - Meditation for Friday of Lent III

4 concrete benches on boardwalk overlooking beach; 2 facing the other direction.

I hurt my foot. I can’t walk up or down the very hills of the town where I live. I have no car. In order to do the most basic of things-go to work, shop, get my mail, requires thought. And calls. And asking. And waiting. I won’t starve. My clothes will get washed eventually. When I shop I double up on things. I freeze bread and milk. I sit in my apartment and wait. To heal. For assistance.

We don’t know when famine may come. Prepare in case. Have faith that it will be provided. I am asked to be ready. When I am striving - look up. Help is on the way. The waters will be calm. All around me people have faith-more than me. They are ready to be fed or healed. I am in it for the long haul. I can aim for the prize, but the race is what strengthens me. The act of preparing, the discipline prepares me not just for the run - the benefits linger past the race itself. I can either feel trapped in a moment or I can prepare for the long race.
