Alleluia Songs of Advent

A meditation  on portions of Psalm 86

When I ever stop and think about my life spread out before me (it does not happen often and usually only when I am prompted to do so by scripture) am so thankful to hear the words of this psalm from verse 2: “You have forgiven the iniquity of your people and blotted out all their sins.”  Then I read from verse 7 “Show me your mercy O lord, and grant us your salvation.”  God’s forgiveness and mercy as well as salvation which the psalmist asks for in verse 7 are gifts from God, given to us in Jesus Christ.

It is wonderful to know of God’s forgiveness and mercy for me, for you and all God’s people.  It reminds me to show that same mercy for others. In North Porch ministry, a ministry which provides urgently needed supplies to needy families with little ones under 4 years of age, we welcome many in need of love and support. We can call that mercy.  It is a privilege to serve them and to provide them with the many items they need for their babies and toddlers.  We thank God that many people provide us with these donations continuously.  Those who come to North Porch have not found the prosperity that we read the Lord grants (verse 12) but we need to continually share what we have and show them mercy and love.
