In the Psalm appointed for today, the people pray for their king as he prepares to go into battle on their behalf. Their pleas echo ours at Christ Church Community Development Corporation in Hackensack - for our neighbors in need and for ourselves - as we work and watch and wait during this Advent season.
May God answer you in trouble.
May God defend you.
May God send you help.
May God strengthen you.
May God grant you your heart's desire.
At Christ Church CDC, we work every day to prevent and end homelessness for our neighbors in Bergen County. We began this work twenty years ago almost alone, lighting a small candle in the dark for those most unwelcome and most vulnerable. Today, we are part of a strong community of public and private agencies who together shine a bright light for everyone in need - both in our County and, as a model, across our Country - always placing those most vulnerable first.
In the spirit of radical hospitality, we welcome everyone in need. We help folks identify and break down their individual barriers to safe, permanent housing, and walk with them each step of their journey. We help them stand when they stumble. We rejoice with everyone who reaches their goal.
As we wait in hope for the new dawn of Christmas, we remember every one of our neighbors who work and watch and wait to be home.
We are risen and stand upright.
We will remember.
We will rejoice.
