A meditation on Verse 1 of Psalm 30
“I will exalt you, O Lord, because you have lifted me up…“ (Verse 1)
As the Jubilee Center, our Ministry is to serve a diverse community of families, while lifting up our most precious resource, our children. I believe it is our responsibility to provide our amazing kids opportunities to soar beyond the sky and become the great individuals they deserve and are destined to be. As they grow into adults, my hope is they will one day have the strength and ability to uplift others who are in need.
I acknowledge that, as the Jubilee, “Tribe,” we are not and could not walk alone in this journey to help our children. In gratitude, we live the Yoruba Proverb that, “It takes a village.” I not only see the universal presence of spirit expressed in our everyday work at the Center, but there are many people I have met who care deeply about our children and express their support in so many ways.
In closing, our namesake, “Jubilee,” is described in the Bible as a moment in time where all of God’s creation will be given the honor and respect, “With which it was endowed by the Creator.” Dr. King believed in this Jubilee promise and that in order to truly see the face of God in every person means that we must encounter one another in the spirit of love. I see God in all of the faces of our children who are entrusted in our care.
