The HR committee has prepared four sample policies as guidelines for the implementation of the denominational health plan in our congregations.
Under the diocesan mandate, health insurance must be provided by January 1, 2013 to eligible lay employees who are scheduled to work 1,500 or more annually and eligible clergy contracted to work half-time or more.
- Employers are required to make same offering to all eligible clergy and lay employees.
- Employers with existing health insurance provisions that do not meet the diocesan standard must achieve parity within five years under a plan filed with and approved by the bishop.
- Employees may opt out for coverage if alternate coverage is available and approved by the Episcopal Church Medical Trust.
