The Rankin Scholarship has been suspended until further notice.
Established in 1980 in honor of Episcopal Church Women member Mary Rankin, this scholarship is open to members of an Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Newark, who are involved in church, and school and/or community activities and have applied for admission to an accredited institution of higher learning.
Rankin was the first woman to be elected to the Diocesan Council, in the late 1960s, and she was also the first woman in the Diocese of Newark elected warden, serving St. George’s Church in Maplewood.
The value of the scholarships, as well as the number of awards, varies from year to year, depending upon the contributions made during the year to the Scholarship Fund. Some gifts go directly to the fund, and other donations are made when the names of deceased women of the Diocese of Newark are added to the Book of Remembrance of the ECW of the diocese.
The following MUST be submitted with the application:
- Letter of recommendation from the parish priest
- One page statement in the applicant’s handwriting about his/her future plans.
- Letter of recommendation stating class standing from a secondary school official.
- Copy of the letter of acceptance into an accredited school of higher education.
Applicant must be willing to be interviewed personally by a member of the Diocesan ECW Board.
