SUMMARY:Ring Out for Earth and Rogation Day Resources
DESCRIPTION:Every parish\, mission\, school\, and institution in the Diocese of Newark is invited to ring bells\, form a drumming circle\, pray or meditate for 429 seconds on Earth Day Tuesday April 22 and/or Sunday\, April 19 or 26\, at your organization or at home\, as a call for the urgent need to care for Creation. The 429 seconds represents the ppm of CO2 in our atmosphere which drives global warming. Resources are provided below. \nThis initiative originated with The Diocese of Los Angeles in 2021 in response to a statement adopted by the House of Bishops during the 80th General Convention in 2022: “Confronting climate change and environmental degradation has never been more urgent. As members of The Episcopal Church\, we are committed in baptism to honor Creation as stewards\, seek God’s will\, treat all people with dignity\, and strive for justice and peace. Living into these promises\, we must face the climate crisis for the sake of love of God and all of our neighbors.” \nOur diocese will be posting photos of our congregations\, groups and members that bring forth this awareness in their communities. Information is presented in the flyer. \nMobilizing the over 10\,400 members across our diocese to pause and pay attention together for 429 seconds will be a powerful and unifying demonstration of a bold act of justice\, peace\, and love. \nThroughout history\, the ringing of church bells and other sacred traditions across faith-based groups has alerted communities not only to important events but also the cause for alarm. With the evidence of a changing climate all around us\, and the impacts being felt most profoundly by those who have the least\, the moment for a call is now.
