The relaxing days of summer have ended, and as we head into the cooler days of autumn, the diocese is abuzz with conversations about the 152nd Annual Convention. The location has been announced, the agenda is being discussed, and the Arrangements Committee is beginning to organize for the big weekend.
Changes are always part of planning Convention, which means there is plenty of preparation for the Chairwoman of Arrangements and the Secretary of Convention. This year, the retirements of diocesan staff members Jim Caputo and Randy Johnson have required us to adjust some of our procedures. These changes have also created new opportunities for members of the diocese to join the committee as volunteers.
We are also excited to welcome back Linda Aprile-Soldwedel, a former Chairwoman of Arrangements. With Linda’s experience and knowledge, we know our team is ready for any challenges that may arise.
So, how can you get involved?
This year’s Convention will be a two-day event with a few logistical challenges that our committee is ready to tackle. We are currently seeking volunteers to help with two very different—but equally important—roles.
First, we are looking for friendly, outgoing people to assist with Check-In and direct attendees to the various Convention spaces. We understand that not everyone can attend both days, and we gladly welcome those who are available to help for just one day.
We are also seeking volunteers for a more physical role: packing and transporting equipment at the end of Convention. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to serve the diocese but can volunteer only for a few hours on Saturday afternoon. Some heavy lifting is involved, and we know there are many amazing people throughout our diocese who can help us get the job done.
If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Arrangements Committee, please contact Donna Caputo.
We are an amazing team of people from across the diocese, and we cannot wait to welcome you!
