Death in our diocesan family: Herminia Gonzales Perez, mother of the Rev. Gregory Perez

With sadness we share the news of the death on August 20 of Herminia Perez, 88, the mother of the Rev. Greg Perez, Rector of Trinity Church in Bayonne. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings TX. In addition to other visitations, a Rosary will be recited at 6 PM on Tuesday evening August 23 at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings followed by a wake service given by Father Greg Perez.

Herminia (Gonzales) Perez was born on April 25, 1928 in Paige, Texas to Camilo and Matea Gonzales. She graduated from Giddings High School in 1946 and married Butchild "Butch" Perez on May 14, 1950 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings. She was a faithful member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church where she had been a member of the Altar Society. Herminia was a loving and devoted homemaker who enjoyed gardening, loving on her grandchildren and making tamales.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Butch Perez; her son-in-law, Stan DeGerolami; her brothers, Valentine Gonzales, Jacinto Gonzales and Juan Gonzales and her sister, Estephanie Carrillo.

Herminia is survived by her three daughters, Virginia Cantu, Mary Frances Arriaga and Christine DeGerolami; her two sons, Father Greg Perez and Barry Perez; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Vicente Gonzales and Lupe Gonzales; two sisters, Ann Alfaro and Carrie Hernandez and one sister-in-law, Rachel Gonzales, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Condolences may be sent to the Rev. Greg Perez in care of Trinity Church, 141 Broadway, Bayonne, NJ 07002.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Margaret's Catholic Church CCD Building Fund or the charity of one's choice.

Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended.
When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death
we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven.
Lord, grant eternal rest, forever in the radiance of your light.
