Confirmation Retreats

The Bishop strongly urges all youth preparing for Confirmation this year to attend a Confirmation Retreat.

Note for adults being Confirmed/Received/Reaffirmed: As there will be no retreat lunches with the Bishop, those adults are encouraged to attend a Breaking Bread with the Bishop gathering and introduce themselves to the Bishop there.

About Youth Confirmation Retreats

The purpose of these “Encounter” day retreats is twofold: to meet other confirmands and to continue to explore your faith. Confirmands will also have the opportunity to meet and talk directly with the Bishop.

The day is broken into two parts. In the morning you get to self select which activity you would like to do: bread making, the future church project (imagining what our future church look like), or a service project. Before lunch we will celebrate worship with communion together. After lunch, confirmands will split into small groups and rotate through five different stations, including a Q&A with the Bishop.

Q. What meals are provided?
A. Lunch is provided and there will be snacks throughout the day!

Q. What should I bring?
A. Bring a reusable water bottle to use throughout the day! Everything else you will need will be provided, but we are doing a service project for Toni’s Kitchen, a ministry of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Montclair. We will be putting together Food Backpacks for kids who are in need. Please consider bring some of these food items with you if able:

  • Peanut butter (small plastic jars — no glass!)
  • Canned tuna fish
  • Oatmeal or other healthy cereals
  • Applesauce
  • Raisins
  • Rice
  • Beans (canned or dry)
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce (plastic jars — no glass!)
  • Granola bars

Q. What should I wear?
A. Plan on wearing comfortable clothes and shoes!

Q. Do we need chaperones from our church?
A. We do need Chaperones to run these safely. The ratio is 1-5 candidates must have 1 Chaperone; and 5-10 candidates = 2 Chaperones. Please ensure that you have sufficient responsible adult chaperones attending for your group – there is registration for adult chaperones below.
