John 3:16

The first line of scripture I ever learned was John 3:16. My Granny gave me this coin with that verse embossed on it. I carried it for years, but I didn't think much about it. Then later it was time to study to be confirmed and in our youth we had to memorize all the answers. There is a question of "what is Grace?" I learned the answer but again didn't think much about it.

Mark 6:1-13

"He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money…”

Remember the old George Carlin routine about people and their stuff? "Everybody's gotta have a place for their stuff. That's all life is about, Trying to find a place for your stuff."

“Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed…”  Mark 5:34

Two people in search of a miracle. Both Jairus and the woman with a hemorrhage are at their wits end. The conventional medical treatments and practices of the day had not worked. No where to go. No one to turn to. No one—except Jesus—the Holy One whose name was on everyone’s lips.

A meditation for March 3

Our Psalms assigned for this day are Psalm 23 and Psalm 27. Psalm 23 is generally used at baptisms, funerals, and Holy Communion. Itis a psalm of comfort, quiet reassurance in this disquieted world; through His continual presence He guides, sustains and uphold us even in our darkest hours. This psalm is of renewal of the covenant and release from individual trial. The verse, “I will dwell in the house of the Lord,” is a thanksgiving and our commitment.

Mark 4.35-41

How terrifying it must have been to be in the boat with Jesus and the disciples when the storm suddenly came up – as it does so often on the Sea of Galilee. And how terrifying it must have been that Jesus, their Teacher, was asleep in the stern – oblivious to the tumult around him

So, the disciples awoke Jesus, with the complaint that he didn’t seem to care that they were dying. But Jesus wakes up and calmly looks around and reprimands the winds and the sea, and the wind ceases and the sea becomes calm.
