Volunteer Positions & Days/Times

Groups provide and serve dinner for 125 guests in Hackensack (purchase food, prepare off-site or cater, serve, clean up). Email mheller@bergenfamilypromise.org for instructions. Any day as scheduled. Arrive 4pm, serve from 5 - 5:50pm. Clean-up.

Volunteer Positions & Days/Times

Attend Box City event – Oct. 18, 2013. Awareness and speakers on homelessness. Overnight, sleeping on box, eating shelter food at Sussex Fairgrounds. Youth 6th grade and older and/or families. $25 registration fee. OR Prepare, serve (typically 7 – 14 guests) and join in family dinner at shelter (which rotates across churches). Dinners daily.

# of Volunteers Needed

For Box City, any number with registration in advance. For meal service, typically 3-6 volunteers including supervision based on need.

How to Schedule

For meal service, call Julie 1 to 3 months in advance.

6th grade and up; require supervision

Volunteer Positions & Days/Times

Sort or package donated goods OR Organize off- site food drive OR Prepare, heat, serve, clean-up men’s shelter meal. Note: plates and utensil provided by shelter. Pantry – as scheduled. Shelter – meal is served 6 to 7pm daily. Volunteers arrive by 5pm and leave after clean-up.

Pantry – 5 volunteers preferred; up to 10. Shelter – team of 5-10 to serve 20 – 40 guests.

Age Requirements

Pantry – no age requirement as long as supervised if under 16 years. Shelter – require supervision for youth.

Help during pantry hours – bag food for guests, sort donations, general ops. Pantry hours Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 9-11:30 am OR Process incoming food donations from Food Bank of NJ; delivery 2nd Friday of month 8 am-noon.

Need 1-4 volunteers to help days pantry is open. Need 8-10 volunteers to assist w/ monthly Food Bank delivery.

Volunteer Positions & Days/Times

Food prep, cooking, or serve for soup kitchen OR youth or other groups can sing, play music or decorate the dining room for holidays or make centerpieces for tables. Also, longer term opportunities to help with events, newsletter, publicity, arts programming, etc. Sunday evenings (3:30 pm to 6pm) for groups, including youth 4th grade and up with chaperone. Adults and high school students welcome with advance scheduling Thurs, Fri, Sat from 9 to 1pm or Sundays from 3:30 to 6pm.

# of Volunteers Needed

Anne will work with your group to set up meaningful experience. Individuals can volunteer anytime kitchen is serving with advance notice.

How to Schedule

Summers – lots of openings. Academic year -- book a few months in advance.

Age Requirements

Sunday evenings 4th grade to high school with adult chaperone. No chaperone required for high school kids. Kitchen workers must be high school or older.
