Same time last year...

Each program year begins in similar fashion with a raft of questions and orientation getting to know one another. I pray that the interns will bond and create a new faith community. This year was not any different than the previous three with the exception that we prepared for eight interns and ended up with seven.

We were giving a wonderful gift of new living room furniture in Newark and a new dining room set for Union City with a new gas furnace to keep the house comfy and cozy this winter. These blessings are important as the community of Ker, Ryan, Emily, Sandra, Christina, Ryan and Terrell begin to settle down and discern where they are being called to be in God’s vineyard.

These seven NEWARK ACTS Missioners are filled with hopes and dreams for the future and what lies ahead this year they are open for the journey. Providing them with a safe shelter and ministry in our community is the foundation to allow for their exploration.

We ask of them to step away from who they are to risk something big for something small knowing that we will pick them up when they fall. Assisting this group of young adults in finding their way has been a challenge thus far and one I would not have wanted to miss. For me this is the action that I thirst for and want everyone to experience.

NEWARK ACTS has attracted thirty-five young adults in four years to call our diocese home and now as we work with the faithful seven with us this year I give thanks for the opportunity to join with these seekers of God as they allow me to witness new vistas and the creators grace in places I have never been.

These NEWARK ACTS Missioners will navigate the daily pace of life in Northern New Jersey with ease as each day passes. The gift we will receive is their wisdom when we engage in joining them and opening ourselves to their company.

It is good to be back in a new year and may God continue to shine upon NEWARK ACTS.
