Bidding farewell to the fourth class of NEWARK ACTS interns, and looking forward to the fifth

Fourth class of NEWARK ACTS interns on retreat.

At a gathering on July 30 we bid farewell to Emily, Michelle, Ker, Yucleidis, Sandra, Christina and Ryan – the NEWARK ACTS Interns of Year Four. The evening was a culmination of an 11-month journey which began in similar fashion with an informal gathering where we shared not only a meal but a piece of our own story.

Emily will return to Dayton to finish her baccalaureate in Dietetics enriched with her work planning meals and nutrition education at the Youth Consultation Service’s Holley Center. Michelle returns to Iowa to prepare for grad school in pursuit of a Master’s in Social Work. Sandra is traveling back to Western Massachusetts to participate in a new service project near Springfield. Ryan has accepted a position in marketing with a Boston-based shoe company and will be traveling to the European market as well as the NY metro area. Christina has accepted a position with the Visiting Homemakers of Hudson County (one of the work sites where she served as an intern). Ker will be a preschool teacher at All Saints Episcopal Day School where she has worked the past two years. Yucleidis has been hired by the Palisades Family Success Center in Union City where she has been a program manager since its inception late last year.

This class has enriched the life of our diocese. I am extremely proud that three interns have chosen to join Jamarr Neyland from years two and three in making New Jersey their home.

We look forward to welcoming to our diocese Lakeyia, Drew, Adem, Hannah, Caroline, Spike, Selam, Leigh and Shawn, who have accepted our call to be the fifth class of NEWARK ACTS Interns.

NEWARK ACTS continues to be a sign of God’s infinite grace in our diocese and a manifestation of our diocese’s passion for justice.
