The Young Adult Festival Kicks Off!

The Young Adult Festival at General Convention 2012

Last night our young adults, Ashlee, AJ, Amasi, and Janelle attended the Opening Reception of the Young Adult Festival (YAF).  There they met up with their peers from all over The Episcopal Church (TEC), heard from the YAF leadership team, and picked up schedules, buttons, and anything else they would need for the week.

Getting acquainted at the GC2012 Young Adult Festival

The highlight of the evening was hearing from Bonnie Anderson, President of the House of Deputies, who encouraged them to get out into the convention and make their presence known.  Also on hand to help were members of the YA staff of TEC, and a leader of the Episcopal Public Policy Network (EPPN), who led them through the next day’s schedule of hearings.

One question of the evening was “Who would you most like to meet?”  The answer from one YA...”Bishop Gene Robinson.”  Another question posed to the YAs was their interest in policy topics, and it was broad and well thought out, including theology of the sacraments, same sex blessing liturgies, future structure of the church, and how the church expects to engage and grow spiritually.  The evening ended with a beautiful compline service of word and music.

Each day, the YAs will head out into the convention, and at the end of the day, share their experiences, and get updates about things they might have missed in an evening briefing.  It is a full day for them, as it is for everyone here, so stay tuned for more!

Blessings,
