And....they're off!!!

Chaplain Diana Wilcox with four young adults attending GC2012

And....WE’RE OFF!!!  The young adults of our diocese are off to General Convention.  They are a great group, and I am blessed to be their chaplain on this journey.  Let them introduce themselves to you...

Hello! My name is Janelle Grant. I live in Piscataway, NJ, but worship at St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Paterson, NJ. I have my BA in Family and Child Studies with a concentration in Family Services from Montclair State University. I am currently enrolled at Rutgers University to get my Master’s degree in Social Work. I love reading, dancing and spending time with my family and friends (especially Ashlee Saro, Amasi Kumeh, and AJ DeWalt). I am also a youth group leader and love working with children. I have been heavily involved in the Diocese of Newark since Middle School. I am going to convention because it is a new experience for me. I am also looking forward to new knowledge that I will gain from convention and participation in the Young Adult Festival. This is also another step in my relationship with God.
                            Hasta Luego,
                                Janelle Grant

Hello, my name is Alexandre DeWalt (but everyone calls me AJ). I am from Montclair, NJ, and I worship at St. Luke’s Montclair.  At the moment, I am working part time for St. Luke’s. I am going to convention to meet new people from the church and see how it works on the national scale.
                    See ya!,  AJ

Hello, my name is Ashlee Saro. I live in Roselle, NJ, and worship at House of Prayer, Newark. I have recently graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Psychology. I enjoy music (I’m an ex-piano player), adventures, and traveling. I am attending General Convention’s Young Adult Festival because I feel like it will help me be more involved in the church, not only in the Diocese of Newark, but also nationwide.
                                Ciao for now,
                                Ashlee Saro

Bonjour, my name is Amasi Kumeh, and I currently live in Sunnyside, NY. However, I lived in Newark, NJ for quite awhile, and consider House of Prayer Newark my home church. This past May, I graduated from the University of Hartford with a BA in Economics and a minor in International Studies. In August I will be enlisted in the year long Episcopal Youth Service Corp in Los Angeles, which primarily focuses on social justice work within the greater LA area.  Among other things, I really enjoy traveling and learning new things. I decided to go to the Episcopal General Convention because I want to reemerge myself back into the Episcopal Church being that I have been away at school for the last 4 years and I did not have the opportunity to be involved as I would have liked to be. I am in complete bliss reconnecting with my old diocesan friends and being able to experience General Convention this time from a different perceptive. This time I am going as a young adult with a new view on life and more knowledgable about the impact the that this convention has on our church and our communities.
                                                                        Au Revoir, Amasi Kumeh

As I said, these are really wonderful young adults, and we will be blogging each day of our journey, so stay tuned!

Blessings,

Chaplain Diana Wilcox
