Treasurers' Workshop

The diocesan Finance Department will offer a Treasurers' Workshop on Thursday evening, May 1 and Saturday morning, May 3. These workshops, which will each contain the same content, are intended to provide information to the Treasurers of our congregations that will include such topics as:

  • Financial statements – What financial information should be presented to vestries?
  • Clergy compensation – What should be paid? How should it be reported on the W-2? And other confusing compensation and payroll issues.
  • Small Employer Health Care Tax Credit – Are you eligible to file for a refund from the IRS?
  • Property insurance – What is the minimum coverage that you need to have?
  • Audits – A review of the Audit Guidelines that are to be used for 2013 audits.
  • And more.

As important as the topics to be covered, Treasurers will meet their counterparts in other congregations, and make relationships that will enable them to contact each other as needed. Being a Treasurer is a real ministry to congregations, but it can be a lonely and sometimes frustrating task. Our goal is to help establish these relationships and identify other topics for future workshops.

Registration

There is no cost for these workshops, but you are asked to register no later than Monday, April 28 so that we know how much food to have and copies of handouts to make.

  • May 1, 2014 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. (refreshments from 6 p.m.; workshop begins at 6:15 p.m.) – Episcopal House, 31 Mulberry Street, Newark
  • May 3, 2014 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. (refreshments from 9 a.m.; workshop begins at 9:15 a.m.) – Calvary Church, 31 Woodland Avenue, Summit
