To assist diocesan members required to take part in Anti-Racism Dialogues, we are pleased to announce that the Diocese of New York will conduct a two-day Anti-Racism Training Workshop on Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, and that a certification of completion from this workshop will serve to fulfill our diocesan requirement.
Complete registration information is available by going to the Diocese of New York’s website, episcopaldioceseofnewyork.org/events/482. The registration deadline is Sunday, June 14.
Our diocesan canons mandate that all diocesan leadership appointed or elected must demonstrate that they have either received or have arranged for the completion of anti-racism dialogues as a condition of serving as a member of a diocesan organization.
This includes:
- Offices elected at Diocesan Convention
- Offices elected by a district (e.g., Convener)
- Diocesan Council
- Standing Committee
- Diocesan Trustees
- Diocesan Commissions, Committees, and Boards
- Bishop’s appointments
Diocesan policy similarly requires certification of completion of anti-racism dialogues by all clergy, both canonically resident and licensed.
Questions about diocesan requirements or the workshops offered may be directed to Canon Greg Jacobs, gjacobs@dioceseofnewark.org, 973-430-9915; or Randy Johnson, rjohnson@dioceseofnewark.org, 973-430-9906.
