Convention Workshops

Workshops at the annual diocesan convention will be offered on Friday morning, Friday later afternoon and Saturday lunch time. The topics will include:

  • Unbinding Holy Week -   An interactive workshop to discover and share resources for new, creative possibilities for Holy Week worship, as we walk, dance, sing our way from Palm Sunday to the Great Vigil of Easter.  Bring your own ideas and bulletins to share, if you like!
  • Compensation – Meaningful Statistics — An engaging workshop with information and meaningful statistics to change the conversation on compensation that is oft times complex and challenging.
  • HDHP/HSA — Understand how the High Deductible Health Plan/Health Savings Account works to get the most from your benefits.
  • Appreciative Inquiry — An introduction to appreciative inquiry and how it can be utilized in Missional Conversations and overall culture change and transformation.
  • Planned Giving — Looking at funding future ministry through Planned Giving.
  • Capital Campaigns — Hear about the transformational effects that a successful capital campaign can have on a church community.
  • Missional Conversations — Be introduced to the concept of Missional Church!
  • Everyone Knows Someone — Responding To and Supporting Those Affected by Mental Illness. Information about mental illnesses and current treatments.
  • Safeguarding Seniors! — Offered by Senior Ministries, this workshop will address important issues facing seniors and provide participants with information they can use to promote safety and quality of life for seniors in their congregations.
  • “Theology of the Hammer and Nail” – Habitat for Humanity — Hear the different ways congregations can get involved with their local Habitat affiliates help strategize for our upcoming diocese wide build day on April 13th.
  • GreenFaith’s Energy Services for Churches — Cutting Costs, responding to climate change, and engaging the community.
  • Ministry Trading Cards© — A web-based service for bartering of programs, retreats, and workshops.
  • Education for Ministry (EfM) — Learn about a program designed to help you do what you've always wanted to do--read and really understand the Bible.
  • Vacation Bible Schools — wait no longer: Get the basics: choosing or developing curriculum, recruiting and training volunteers, using publicity effectively, and good administration techniques.
  • Ministry of the Verger — A ministry of service and welcome in our churches.
  • Newark ACTS — A Year of Service: Meet our interns who will share their stories of ministry and service.
  • ACTS/VIM Grants - Funds are available to support outreach programs and the process is easily explained.
  • Electronic Communications for Churches - Have your questions answered on electronic communications issues specific to churches, including the Church Website Project, church Facebook pages, and more.
  • Orientation for New Deputies - Understanding the business sessions of convention and the use of Robert's Rules of Order.
