During the six days of July 25-30, a number of people will join Bishop Beckwith in walking across our entire diocese, from the Delaware River that forms our western boundary with Pennsylvania to the Hudson River that forms our eastern boundary with New York – a journey totaling 80 miles. On this prayerful pilgrimage, the walkers will look for where God is at work in our communities and how we can join God in shaping the future of our diocese.
There are opportunities for all of us to participate directly or offer our support:
Participate as a Pilgrim or a support team member
It’s not too late to join the group! You can participate for an hour of worship, a meal, a day of walking or the whole pilgrimage. In addition to Pilgrims, other roles include Support Drivers, Site Coordinators, Worship Leaders, Meal Preparers and Waypoint Hosts at the churches we pass along the way. Pilgrims who sign up no later than 5 PM on Thursday, July 14 will receive a free T-shirt with the design shown at right. Find out more about participating in the walk.
Sponsor the Pilgrims through the Alleluia Fund for Outreach
Another way you can participate is by sponsoring our Pilgrims on this 80-mile journey. Monies raised will go to the Alleluia Fund for Outreach, which supports programs providing practical, hands-on support to those most vulnerable in our diocese and internationally. Our Alleluia Fund partners are evidence of how God is at work today in our northern New Jersey communities. Our walkers will travel through several of the communities served by our Alleluia Fund partners, such as a satellite center of North Porch Women & Infants’ Centers in Hackettstown; the Senior Resource Center in Chester; Success for All After School Program in Morristown; and Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair – to name just a few. All sponsorship gifts – fifty cents a mile, ten dollars a mile, or more – will make a difference to our Alleluia Fund partners. Together, our generosity accomplishes much, much more than we could as individuals.

To make a sponsorship gift online, go to e-giving.dioceseofnewark.org and enter your gift. You may sponsor one or more individual Pilgrims by name, or leave the name field blank to sponsor all the Pilgrims.
Or, you can send a check payable to Diocese of Newark with Alleluia Fund – Walk in the memo line to Diocese of Newark, 31 Mulberry Street, Newark, NJ 07102. If you wish to sponsor one or more individual Pilgrims, please add their names in the memo line also.
