Beverly Faye Canzater Jacobs
July 20, 1953 – December 27, 2012

Born in Anniston, Alabama to Theodore and Eloise Canzater, Beverly was educated in the public school systems of New York City. During this time, she and her sister were used to integrate three elementary schools in Queens. A graduate of Princeton University, Beverly was a member of the second class of women admitted to that institution. While at Princeton, she met her husband, Gregory Alexander Jacobs. To their union were born two daughters, Charlotte Elizabeth and Stephanie Nicole (Gregory F. Snyder).

Upon graduation from Princeton, Beverly enjoyed a career in advertising at Benton & Bowles (NYC), handling accounts ranging from the United States Post Office to laundry detergents.

Switching her career focus, Beverly entered the field of education and spent over 30 years teaching in several school systems, including East Cleveland and Solon, Ohio and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Not only did Beverly display her talents teaching students in the classroom, but she also served as an advisor and mentor to other teachers; specializing in teaching best practices in the field of mathematics and technology. In 1990, she was a contributing editor to The Equity in Technology Project Directory. Beverly was most recently employed by the New Jersey Department of Education.

A dedicated and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Beverly is survived by her husband Gregory, daughters Charlotte and Stephanie and son-in-law Gregory Snyder; mother, Eloise Canzater; sister Pamela Canzater Cheney; nieces Kathryn-Anne, Dominique, and Elizabeth; mother-in-law Lynette Jacobs; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. David G. Jacobs and Mrs. Rosalyn A. Jacobs; nephews Eric, Evan, and Ethan Jacobs; sister-in-law Lisalyn R. Jacobs; nephew Alyandro Jacobs, and countless relatives and friends.

God our Creator,
we thank you that you have made each of us
in your own image,
and given us gifts and talents
with which to serve you.
We thank you for Beverly,
the years we shared with her
the good we saw in her,
the love we received from her.
Now give us strength and courage,
to leave her in your care,
confident in your promise of eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

A loss to us and a gain in heaven. It has been a delight to have Beverly involved in our church community at St. Philip's Akron. My prayers are extended. Lynnette L. Miller

Bev was one in a million. She was a gifted teacher, mother, friend and mentor to many. Bev was such a giving person to family friends and always thought of others first never herself. She is someone I truly will miss and loved her as though she were my sister. Her laugh was contagious, her smile delightful and her heart full of love for all. I as well as others will truly miss this special talented and caring person.God Bless her soul. Catherine Kadunc

From Shaker Hts we send love and condolences on Bev's death. What a shock to lose someone we all spent so much time with over those years in Fernway, Woodbury, the Middle School and on into the high school. She fought so hard to come back from that stroke, and bounced back bubblier than before. Stef, Charlotte and Greg- we too will miss her and her very infectious laugh and smile. Prayers for everyone as you grieve this tragic and too soon passing. Courtright Family

From Brooklyn; Val, Deborah, Kairi and Nia Henry send our love and condolences to our cousins Rev. Canon Jacobs and Family. To God be the Glory!

I was so, so sorry to hear this sad and shocking news. My husband and I met Bev and Greg through mutual friends when we all lived in Cleveland in the late 70's - those days now seem so carefree. Reading the other comments brought back memories of Bev's great laugh (as well as her beautiful eyes). She was incredibly intelligent, very quick, and really enjoyed going out and doing things. I still remember her hospitality - in particular going to her house for a "farewell" barbeque when my husband and I decided to come back East in 1981. We "retouched base" on Facebook after many years, and I would hear about Bev from a high school classmate who attended Princeton with her. My thoughts are with Greg, the rest of her family, and her many friends. Sandi Charton

Dear Greg, Stephanie and Charlotte, We were so sorry to hear about Bev''s passing. We recently re-connected as Facebook friends and it was fun hearing from her. I have fine memories of Bev when she lived in Shaker Heights. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Maureen Dubyak

"The spirits of the ones we love are never truly gone- The words they spoke, the love they showed, have ways of living on." She is gone but never forgotten. Gods' Peace and Grace be with the Jacobs family in this time of sorrow. Lydia & Alexis Manrow.

It was my privilege to have worked with Bev for a few years during the early 1990's in East Cleveland at our district's Math and Science Enrichment Center. She was a visionary educator with high standards for the children with whom she came in contact, but she also provided kindness and always extended a helping hand. I was saddened to see her leave East Cleveland to pursue other opportunities, and the district was a lesser place without her. My deepest sympathy to her lovely daughters, whom I got to know when they were grade school kids, and to her entire family. Cary Seidman Cleveland, Ohio

The Charles Dickerson family is shocked and saddened to hear of Beverly's passing. The intersections of our lives with the Jacobs family as friends with mutual church and Princeton University affiliation is a long and enduring one. Our prayers for everyone are extended. We hope that the sadness & tears of today will soon turn to sweet memories of a dear one whose spirit continues to travel with those left behind.

It is with much sadness that I received word of the passing of my former colleague, Beverly Jacobs. She and I both taught at the Martin Luther King Jr. School in Cambridge Massachusetts. Although she was the math teacher, students enjoyed being in her classroom where she often provided snacks and a warm, nurturing environment for each child. Beverly equipped her students not only with math skills, but with discipline and genuine concern for their entire education as well. As the chorus teacher, I will remember Bev most for her lovely soprano voice as she assisted students in graduation preparations. Beverly also sang in the MLK Jr. Birthday Celebration Choir and she was always supportive of the students; even when her singing voice was silenced. We will never hear her singing again in this life, but when we all get to heaven I am certain her voice will be strong and anointed as we sing together in the song of the redeemed. Be encouraged, family and friends, our loss is heaven's gain. Sent by Mrs. Deborah Greene

You were like a grandmother to me, i will never forget you. :'( -jodanah

Greg: Elvin passed on the sad news. Some of our finest memories of Cleveland are of our time with you and the ever-passionate Bev. She was a wonderful person, full of commitment, zeal and accomplishment; an inspiration to us all. With Love and Sympathy from Toronto, Barry and Rosemary

I was so saddened to hear about your loss. I am not sure if you remember me, but we met during your time at the Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland. Your passion for my school (Marion Sterling) has not been forgotten. Although, I am no longer at Marion Sterling School, I will never forget the love that you and your wife gave to this small urban school. I have thought of you often and was sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Please know that you and your entire family are in my prayers. If I can be of service do not hesitate to contact me. Laverne McLain

We met Bev at Fernway School where Charlotte and our son Gabe were classmates and friends. It pains me to learn of Mrs. Jacob's passing after so many years. She was a very special teacher who has touched the lives of many students including myself. She was so kind and compassionate, and saw the best in everybody.
